The espresso martini is the ultimate cocktail that never fails to impress. While it may appear complex, it’s surprisingly simple to prepare, making it a perfect choice for your next dinner party or gathering with friends. The trick to getting the beautiful layer of crema or coffee foam on top of your cocktail is to use fresh, high-quality espresso coffee. We have listed our recommendations below. Also, all of our coffees can be ordered with an espresso grind, so you can truly customize this drink to your preferences.
~ Ingredients ~
- 2 oz Brown & Jenkins Cafe Espresso Blend.
- For a flavored espresso martini try, Brown & Jenkins Dark Chocolate Espresso or Chocolate Raspberry Coffee.
- 2 oz of Vodka
- 1 oz Coffee Liquor (Kahlúa is the go-to pick for this cocktail)
- For a sweater or creamy cocktail, add 1/2 oz of simple syrup or 1/2 oz of Bailey's.
- Ice
- Sprinkle Brown & Jenkins Coffee Powder
~ Recipe ~
- Pull a shot of espresso using an espresso machine. Alternatively, if you do not have an espresso machine check out our blog post on How to Make Espresso With a French Press.
- Add ice to a cocktail shaker.
- Add your Vodka, Coffee Liquor, simple syrup if using, and lastly, espresso.
- Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
- Strain into a coup or martini glass or other glass of choice. As the drink settles, the crema will form at the top of the glass.
- Garish with a sprinkle of the coffee powder, and serve!
Tips to make ahead.
- You can make your espresso ahead of time. Pull 10-20 shots of espresso depending on how many drinks you expect to make. Plan for about 2 shots per drink. Store in a jar or airtight container in the fridge and add to the shaker when you are ready to prepare the cocktails.
- Additionally, if you are unable to create individual cocktails. You can create a Martini Espresso Bar. In a large pitcher, combine 1 cup of espresso, 1 cup of Vodka, 1/2 cup of Coffee Liquor. Makes about 4-5 drinks). Set out optional garnishes like, espresso beans, coffee powder, and flavored simple syrups. While these cocktails won't have the tradiontional crema they will have the same great taste and your guests will love it.
